Locally owned and passion-driven, making lake life unforgettable
By Like Media Team
Summer in North Idaho is more than just a season; it’s a lifestyle. With its glassy lakes, endless sunshine, and mountain backdrops, it’s no wonder locals and visitors alike seek every opportunity to get outside and make the most of it. Chasing thrill or chill? The lake is calling—and thanks to Beeracuda Boat Rentals and Wheels-n-Waves, answering that call has never been easier (or more fun).
These two businesses, owned by Sandpoint locals Jon and Tone Stolz, have become staples for North Idaho’s summer seekers. What began as a creative side hustle quickly turned into something much bigger. “You could say I stumbled into the boating industry,” Jon says. “When I moved back to Sandpoint and realized a need for more rental options, an old buddy and I started renting out our personal boats. It was kind of like a boat version of Airbnb.”
What started as a side gig has grown into Beeracuda Boat Rentals, a thriving operation based out of Dover Bay Resort. Its fleet of 11 boats is built for every kind of lake day, from laid-back lounging to water-sport adventures. When their original partner retired in 2022, Jon and Tone took over the business entirely and expanded it to meet growing demand.
“We pride ourselves on offering a diverse fleet of pontoon boats,” Jon says. The lineup includes high-performance tritoons with 150–200 HP Mercury engines, Bluetooth stereos, ski poles, Bimini tops, and even boats with built-in slides. “Whether you want to cruise, play, or do a little of both, we’ve got you covered,” he adds.
That personalized experience is part of what makes Beeracuda stand out. Friendly, knowledgeable team members guide renters through the process, starting with Jon’s sister-in-law, Tanjee Ferguson, who helps match customers to their ideal boat. Once on-site, staff like Laura and Clayton Laude or Sidney Brown handle orientation and safety overviews, ensuring every guest is confident and ready to hit the water.
And they don’t stop at Dover Bay. Beeracuda offers boat delivery within 150 miles, including Hayden Lake, Spirit Lake, and Priest Lake, with further delivery options available upon request. Extras like towable tubes, lily pads, water skis, and stocked with ice coolers are available to elevate the experience even more!
“All of our boats come equipped with Bluetooth sound systems so you can set the perfect vibe for your day,” Jon adds. “We treat each customer like family because we want them to have an unforgettable day on the lake.”
That same customer-first mindset inspired the launch of Wheels-n-Waves, a pontoon dealership based in Sagle. Here, boat lovers can go from renting to owning—literally. The businesses work together to offer a “rent-to-buy” experience, allowing customers to test the exact boat model through Beeracuda Boat Rentals before deciding to purchase through Wheels-n-Waves.
“If someone falls in love with the boat they rented, we can help them buy that exact model,” says Jon. “There’s nothing better than knowing exactly what you’re getting—and knowing you already love it.”
Wheels-n-Waves is the exclusive regional dealer for Aloha Pontoons, a family-owned brand that has been building innovative boats since 1960. “They’re known for their solid construction and unique designs, like being one of the first to introduce the upper sundeck on a pontoon,” shares Jon. The dealership also carries EZ Loader Trailers, PUD Pro Trailers and Edge Aluminum Boats, giving buyers various quality options.
From layout selection and upgrades to financing and delivery, Jon and his team are with customers every step of the way and remain available for support long after the sale. “It’s not just about selling a boat,” Jon says. “It’s about building relationships and keeping people on the water for years to come.”
For Jon and Tone, it's all about community and connection. “We love this place and the people in it,” they share. “Being able to share these lakes and help others create their own memories out here—that’s what makes it all worth it.”
